Everything Changes

Seasons come and go. They can mirror the calendar and nature, or they can be all their own thing. Many people experienced 2020 as a season that seemed prolonged, one where there was a stifling of freedom, and lots of space to reflect and readjust.

Spring is turning into summer in my neck of the woods. The kids are out of school and enjoying all the freedom of the last carefree summer for all of them together. I remember the season of motherhood that I thought would never end. The one where it was a full time job just keeping the tiny humans alive. Now, I focus on equipping them with strong character and good work ethic in order to succeed in life.

My youngest was sharing her heart with me this morning and she just kept saying how different everything is since I went back to school. I was confused because I have been a full time student (year around) since 2018, so for me it doesn't seem different. Apparently, all this college talk had her stressed with the responsibility of me getting a masters degree. In her mind, a master is like her martial arts teachers, they are skilled and knowledgeable and require respect.

She is right, it is different this time. Just like the subtle shift in the weather, leaning closer to the sunshine, there is a shift, an anticipation for things to change. I have been pondering if maybe 2020 emptied our lives of all that was less then, so we can focus on the best of all? Is the drought just preparation for the flood gates of heaven to pour out and giving us a place to receive it all?

Maybe. All I know for sure is that everything changes. For good or for bad. Those that have sowed in tears will reap in joy (Psalms 126:5), that joy comes in the morning (Psalms 30:5) and blessed are those that mourn for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4). Yes, everything changes. Change us Lord.
