Lessons from the Sea-Part 1

Parting of the Red Sea from Exodus 14

We are natural born complainers. It is human nature to find fault with all our circumstances and try to cast the blame on someone else. I like think as I read the stories found in the book of Exodus, that I would never be like those people, those whiny Israelites. The truth is, I am one of them, and so are you.

The Israelites had just seen miracle after miracle as the plagues rained down on all of Egypt and they had been spared. Yet, they still had doubts that God was with them. They were facing the Red Sea on one side, and the Egyptian army was closing in fast on the other. They were freaking out.

I do the same thing. I see my circumstances and I forget that my God is really in the miracle making business. Just when you are about to give up and throw in the towel, think about the words that God gave to Moses to comfort the terrified nation: "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today... The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent." (Exodus 14:13-14).

What waves of fear are treating you today?

Have you been trying to fight your own battles?

What will it take for you to surrender your fight to the Lord today?
