May Reflection

It is nearly June and as I sit on my couch with my little kitten I am pondering what the next season will bring. Summer is nearly here, school is out, and the possibilities are endless. I see God at work, but I am perplexed on what that really means for me and the coming days.
I have been in the same routine for years. My role as a wife has been established since 2003. My role as a mother began in 2004. My role as home educator launched in 2008. I have been a full time college student for the last 5 years and tomorrow marks 2 years at my job. God has been preparing me for this season for a long time and yet I feel a little lost.
Peter called out to Jesus, who was walking on the water at the time, and Jesus said "Come." Jumping out of the boat was the easy part, it was keeping his eyes focused on Jesus and not the circumstances that proved to be more difficult. So when we don't know what to do, we must fix our eyes on Jesus.
That is what I am doing. Daily, focusing on what is before me. Not trying to figure out the entire season and all that is ahead, but just the next step. I tell all my counseling clients, you cannot control or change anything, but yourself. So what are you going to do today, to change your attitude, your behavior, your perspective?
A long time ago, I heard a preacher say that you are changed by the people you know, the movies you watch, and the books you read. This is why it is so important when you are in a transitional time, that you guard your doors. They are, after all the well spring of your life (Proverbs 4:23).
Last night, I watched Jesus Revolution with my family- an amazing true story of how just loving the unlovable changed the course of so many people's lives. It motivates me.
I am reading a book by John Ortberg's , "Who is This Man" - a story all about why Jesus is the most important historical figure- EVER! It inspires me.
Today, I am preparing to teach a new series on letting go of fake guilt-those times when you feel sorry for things that aren't even your fault or in your control. It encourages me.
Tonight, I am teaching young women to keep seeking the truth found in God's Word, because that is the only thing that will give them the strength needed to thrive where God is taking them. It humbles me.
These are the opportunities God has given me today (along with all my domestic mom life tasks, lol). I do not need to worry about what tomorrow may bring because today has enough to keep me busy! Being obedient and faithful in the small things often goes unrecognized and unrewarded, but it does not mean it is not of value.
